It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronnie “Jake” Jacobsen, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother. On December 20, 2024, Ronnie, 92, of Cedar Grove, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY before moving in Cedar Grove, NJ in 1960. He worked as a Senior Draftsman for over 40 years with ITT in Nutley, NJ before retiring in 1991. After meeting the love of his life, Ellen, while working together at ITT, they married in 1959 and settled in Cedar Grove where they raised their three children.
Ronnie graduated from George Westinghouse Vocational High School in Brooklyn, NY and spent most of the early 1950’s participating in competitive roller skating. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1954 and was stationed in Livorno, Italy. After settling in Cedar Grove, he enjoyed his annual trips to Lake Stockholm and Lake George. Ronnie thoroughly enjoyed tinkering, working outside, and he especially loved helping others. He loved sitting around telling stories about growing up in Brooklyn, his time with ITT, how he met his wife, and especially roller skating and his travels to Italy and Norway.
Ronnie leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Ellen (Kasper), his two sons, Eric Jacobsen of Mesa, AZ, Glenn Jacobsen and wife, Lisa, of Verona, NJ along with his daughter, Heidi Borys, of West Caldwell, NJ. He also leaves behind his four grandchildren, Skylar (Jacobsen) Waller and husband, Billy, of Mesa, AZ, Kyle and Nicholas Jacobsen of Verona, NJ and Madison Borys of West Caldwell, NJ along with his great grandson, Gage Waller, 3, of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by his two sisters, Ann Mizzell and Edith Schaefer of New York and is predeceased by his two brothers, Albert Jacobsen of Toms River, NJ, Frank Jacobsen of Temple Terrace, FL and parents, Bjarne and Kristine Jacobsen, of Catskills, NY.
Ronnie’s family would especially like to thank Debi Borys for taking such wonderful care of him for the past year. Her love and devotion to Ronnie and the family has been extremely evident and appreciated.
Ronnie’s warm smile, kindness and talent for storytelling will be deeply missed by all. May he rest in peace, and may his memory live on and be a blessing to all who loved him.
