Bollini, Robert Joseph, 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Montclair, NJ. Born in Springfield, MA, and raised in Torrington, CT, he was the son of the late Hugo and Mary Bollini. A well-rounded scholar, he earned a BA in zoology from Cornell University, an MA in linguistics from Georgetown University, and a Ph.D. in history from The University of California, Berkeley. He was a professor of history at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, N.S. until his retirement. He served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Army in Korea. A beloved family member, devoted birder and Audubon member, lover of nature, photographer and painter.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha Bollini (nee Cleary); daughters: Ursula Bollini, Julia Bollini (Paul Newman); brother Jimmy (Nancy) Bollini; grandchildren Alessandra and Eleanor Newman. Cremation will take place under the direction of the Cremation Society of New Jersey. A funeral mass will be held at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Montclair, NJ, on Friday May 11, at 10:00 a.m., reception to follow.
