Mary Lou Rettstatt (nee Bixler), age 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29th following a brief illness. Born in Wauseon, OH, she was the daughter of Calvin and Loah Bixler. Prior to moving to Pompton Plains, NJ in January 2012, she resided in Doylestown, PA. She was a former resident of Kinnelon and Ringwood, NJ as well.
A talented artist, she created beautiful pieces of pottery and artworks in watercolor and pastels, a hobby she enjoyed her entire life. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed travel, music and spending time with her family.
She married Charles (Chuck) Rettstatt in 1956 and they raised three children together. A loving mother, she leaves behind her daughter Robin O’Hearn (Bill) of Ringwood, and sons Mark (Kimberly) of New Castle, NH .and Bruce (Julie) also of Ringwood. She was a devoted grandmother to Emily, Pierce, Olivia, Molly, Melanie and Maddie. She is also survived by a sister, Lois Germann of Napoleon, OH, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Chuck, and by her sisters, Vivian Newcomb, Dana Beatty, Evelyn Cooley and a brother, Calvin, Jr..
Prior to retiring in 1996, Mary Lou was a Real Estate agent for Coldwell Banker Real Estate in their Kinnelon and Oakland, NJ offices. The family will be holding a private memorial service in February. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
