Joan Kain

Joan Purdy Kain, 69, passed away on February 7, 2025. Joan was a fiercely independent and resilient woman who faced her life's challenges with unwavering strength. She is now at peace. Joan was so fearless when she was young, her Dad affectionately nicknamed her "Tiger," a moniker she carried with pride throughout her life. Joan was an avid reader who found joy in writing, art, and music, and she cherished the companionship of her beloved cats, Boots and Coco Bean. Born in Paterson, NJ and raised in Wayne, Joan attended St. Mary's school in Pompton Lakes and Wayne Hills High School in Wayne. Joan most recently lived for many years in Passaic, NJ. Joan's working career was dedicated to helping others as a Home Health Aide. Joan was predeceased by her husband James Kain, and her parents, William and Catherine Purdy. Joan is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Eileen Kimbell Meaney and Thomas, William Purdy, Thomas Purdy and Karen Volino, and Kathleen Purdy Padula and Robert. Aunt Joan is also lovingly remembered by her niece Jade, nephews William, Matthew, Joseph, Thomas, and Max, grandniece Amelia and grandnephews Joshua, Clark and Mattix. In lieu of flowers and to honor Joan's deep love of animals, donations can be made to Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge Inc. (RBARI), which provides shelter and financial assistance for medical treatment to pets in need. A Memorial service will be held 6-8pm, Thursday, February 13, 2025, Marrocco Memorial Chapel, 470 Colfax Ave, Clifton, NJ 07013. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11am, Friday, February 14, at St. Philip the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 797 Valley Rd, Clifton, NJ 07013.
