Mr. Gerhard Wilhelm-Hans Leggemann, of Woodland Park (former West Paterson), born in Hanau Germany on April 26th, 1943 to Kurt-Walther Leggemann and Elisabeth Roeder-Leggemann died on January 19th 2018. He was surrounded by the love of his entire family in the days leading up to his passing.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 52 years, Mrs. Erika Margot Leggemann, and their three children: Ms. Jutta Elisabeth-Paula Casseles-Hammond (Thom), Mr. Thomas Franz-Kurt Leggemann (Melody), and Mrs. Karin Maria Leggemann-German (Matthew). He was also very proud of his nine grandchildren: Ryan, Paul, Sonoma, Makayla Naomi, Sarah, William, Yvonne and Noah, who will carry on his hard-work ethic, the love of story-telling, rock collecting and games as well as a passion for travel. Gerhard will also be forever remembered by his brother Volker Leggemann (Roswitha) and extended family residing in Germany.
In his life, Gerhard was the consummate provider, putting family first, providing tremendous security and countless opportunities for learning and exploration for his entire extended family. Gerhard was an extremely generous man. He was affectionately known as “Lego,” to family and also colleagues in his textile business: Leggemann Machinery Inc. He had a zest for life, a lively personality and sense of humor. Gerhard, Dad and Opa will remain forever in our memory as the Patriarch with a tough exterior, a very big heart and a giving spirit.
