Ellen Mitchell

August 5, 1952 — May 10, 2023

Ellen J. Mitchell, also known as Ellie and Elle-Belle, was a life-long Nutley resident who entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023; she was 70 years old. Ellen was born on August 5th, 1952 in Newark, New Jersey to Joseph and Julia (Duperault) Michals. During her high school years, Ellen was accomplished in Track and voted “Most Athletic” by her peers.
Ellen attended the University of Rhode Island and Florida State in Jacksonville and returned to college later graduating in 1996 with her Baccalaureate Degree from Montclair University. Ellen married her devoted husband Scott Mitchell on May 30th, 1992. They spent holidays with friends and family and often vacationed at the family camp in Readsboro, Vermont, a place of adventure and respite, where she visited since her childhood. She loved swimming in the lake, socializing with her friendly farm neighbors, and taking in all of nature’s beauty. She also loved science, history, and fine art. She enjoyed painting contemporary works with different mediums, such as watercolors and charcoal.
Ellen sometimes joked that she was, “stuck in the 1970’s,” since she loved that time period and wasn’t too keen on the computerized age. She was feisty and gentle, kind and spiritual. She was a lady with a bright smile, who had the wonderful ability to make people comfortable with her perfect “customer service” voice. She was a storyteller and loved to make people laugh—even the shy guy. She enjoyed tending her tomato garden, and she loved her pets, especially the cats. She also will be fondly remembered as one who took life at her own speed and faced adversity with courage and fortitude.
In 2020 Ellen retired, after working as a Sales Associate at Bob’s Discount Furniture Store in Secaucus for over 10 years. Ellen is survived by her beloved husband Scott and her dear in-laws Chris and Andrew Mitchell-Kanney, Alexander and Lisa Mitchell, Karen Nelson, Barbara and Len Conly, and Joseph Mitchell, as well as her nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her three sisters, Shirley Beaudoin, Joann Blazier and Mary Ciasco. www.CremationNJ.com
